West Vancouver became it's own city when it was separated from the District of North Vancouver in March 1912. It is one of the main connecting points between the Mainland and Vancouver Island.
West Vancouver is the home of Canada's first shopping centre, Park Royal. It is also the home of the Horshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. Along the waters of of West Vancouver is a 15 block seawall and Ambleside Park, which is a popular spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts.
There are many public recreation facilities in West Vancouver such as an 18-hole gold course, a pool, an ice rink, basketball court, tennis court, and a skateboard park.
